Hawcoat Park A v Littleborough 3rds

Hawcoat Park A 0 Littleborough 3rd XV 22

Another much changed team, taking the number of players used this season up to 46 in just 6 games! Littleborough took an early lead from a penalty on the 22 and continued to dominate the first 20 minutes, playing pick and go, with some strong running forwards. Their first try followed a long period of pressure, close to the Hawcoat line, with some very good defence, but eventually this gave way, as having sucked in defenders, Littleborough were able to spin the ball wide to an overlap and easy score. Hawcoat began to grow into the game, with Jack Ostin and Ben Karkera doing some great work at the breakdown, but conceded a further try, again from close range, with a Littleborogh forward burrowing over after a series of rucks. Overall, all the changes in personnel led to a rather disjointed first half performance from Hawcoat, not helped by the strong, swirling wind that made lineouts very difficult for both sides. Half time score 0-15

In the second half Hawcoat began to gel more as a unit and had long periods of pressure in the Littleborough half wth some strong running in particular from Lewis Philips, Luke Shaw & Ben Hughes in the forwards, stand-off James Dunne and Danny Scott & Rob Shepherd at centre. However, the only score of the half went to Littleborough, who kicked through when Park lost the ball on the half way line and won the scramble for the ball with a desparate defence, to dive over. A disappointing result, but lots of signs of progress and things to work on as the newer players begin to settle in.
